Job Summary

In this role, you’ll be trained as a Speech Scientist for voice biometrics and speech IVR systems (the automated telephone systems you reach when you call large companies). Initially, work will be primarily in the voice biometrics domain. This role will combine elements of Speech Science and Software Development.

Speech Science involves analysis and experimentation with speech data to optimise performance of the speech product, either the voice biometrics or speech recognition engine. Experiments are based on statisical analysis of results with different data sets and paramater setting within the engine.

Software development at Nuance involves developing applications for IVR and mobile, predominently in Java, but also in programming languages for Android and iOS.

 

Responsibilities

  

  • Write grammar specifications that detail speech recognition parameters and dictionaries
  • Work with a team of developers, user interface designers, testers and project managers
  • Participate usability tests to make sure the system works well for callers
  • Perform statistical analysis of speech and/or voice biometric performance
  • Develop IVR speech grammars and voice biometrics background models
  • Develop scripts and applications to process log files for the purpose of analysis and experiments of speech and voice biometric performance
  • Software development activities relating to implementation of IVR, mobile and voice biometrics applications

        

Number of years of Work Experience:1-2 year relevant experience

 

Required Skills: 

  • Fluency in Japanese, preferably native speaker
  • Fluency in English
  • Passionate about analyzing data to solve problems and improve systems.
  • Programming experience in scripting language like Perl, javascript and programming languages like Java, C#
  • Based in Tokyo, and able to travel within Asia

• Creativity and a sense of fun

 

Prefered Skills:

  • A background in Data Science, or related fields.
  • Speech recognition knowledge, understanding of pattern recognition, text classification, or other machine learning algorithms.
  • Technological self-starter (Database query skills to get data some data, installation of packages and dependencies to asses features and integration options) with a demonstrated aptitude for exploring solutions prior to engagement with customers
  • Manipulating contact centre data through Excel, R, Python, Tablaeu or other tools for quantitative analysis of facts and performance
  • Experience in IVR or voice biometrics
  • Experience developing grammars

• Experience with Nuance products

 

Education:

•BS or MS in Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics, Cognitive Science, Computational Linguistics, Mathematics, or related field.
