Job Summary

Summary:

 

The candidate will be a researcher in the Natural Language Inference team, applying our technology (and whatever else is necessary) to solve key problems for virtual assistants for customer service.  Our current focus is discovering intents from logged chats and answering questions from both reference content and logged chats.  The candidate will implement algorithms to solve problems, and run experiments to verify and improve performance.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct research and experiments to solve problems related to natural language processing (NLP).
  • Implement prototypes to test new ideas and NLP algorithms.
  • Understand other NLP technologies from other teams in Nuance and how to apply them to solve our challenges.
  • Proactively determine where our algorithms need improvement (performance and/or accuracy), and find solutions that make those improvements.
  • Present findings (written reports or oral presentations, as appropriate).

Number of Years of Work Experience: 5+

 

Required Skills:

  • Natural language processing
  • Machine learning and classification.
  • Smart and curious: experience running accuracy experiments and systematically improving performance.
  • Unix, strong object-oriented programming (Java), scripting language (Python), Eclipse.
  • Should be able to take initiative, but also follow a plan and work well as part of a team.
  • Good communication skills (written and oral).

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with information retrieval.
  • At least one of linguistics, AI, knowledge representation, dialog, deep learning.
  • Gradle/maven, Tomcat, Django, git/svn.

Education: Advanced degree in computer science (or similar field) or equivalent work experience.
