Job Summary

Nuance’s Communications Service Providers (CSP) around the world have a powerful relationship with their consumers, with the ability to bill them for services including TV and Smart home solutions.  As TV, VOD and premium content have become richer (channel proliferation), and more diverse, and IOT solutions have begun to proliferate over time, several significant challenges to the industry have arisen, including:

  • Poor user experience for search – the remote control is unable to provide a simple experience for finding content.
  • Low Consumer awareness of premium content
  • Content is becoming disaggregated from the delivery channel: creating a significant revenue challenge to the industry (e.g. HBO, Netflix)
  • The preferred user interface for IOT solutions is shifting to voice

Nuance pioneered the use of automatic speech recognition (ASR) and natural language understanding (NLU).  Our technology improves the TV user experience by allowing users to search by channel, title, genre, actor, year, and much more, using their own words. Both service provider and end-user adoption of the intelligent spoken interface in the TV and VOD content experience has exploded – usage has outstripped expectations and demand is surging globally, as we find ourselves on the cusp of a new era in content search, discovery, and purchase.  This platform can also serve as the interface for end users to command their IOT devices.

 

The techincal director for TV, VoD and IoT will play a critical role in evaluating market opportunities and defining new products that enable our Carrier partners and Nuance to expand wallet share.

 

This individual will be responsible for defining and driving the product strategy in support of our carrier partners. They will work in collaboration with Product Development, as well as Marketing and Sales to identify market opportunities and define a product roadmap that accelerates growth.

 

This technical director will act as the business and technical owner and will need to stay abreast of the latest technologies and trends to define and execute product strategy, and to ensure market needs are met with compelling products that deliver maximum benefit to customers and maximum impact to Nuance and our Carrier partners.

 

Responsibilities:

 

Vision and Strategy

  • Articulate and justify a compelling vision for TV and IOT products in the CSP market, encompassing where consumer behavior will go and how that will affect industry economics.
  • Conduct market analysis and opportunity assessment for current and future products aimed at maximizing revenues and margins. This includes hypothesis based research (in cooperation with segment management and solution marketing) with prototypes and research guides to uncover latent customer needs
  • Definitively articulate the value chain and financial flow of the TV and IOT ecosystems.

Planning and Execution

  • Define and lead strategy for product management efforts for TV and IoT solutions, with responsibility for communicating the product roadmap for Nuance and our Carrier partners, includingthe definition and creation of detailed requirements for the product and services through visual tools, PRDs, and other media.
  • Analyze financials and develop business cases to justify investments and define priorities, includinginnovative business models, value propositions, pricing models, and financial pro­formas for the product line.
  • Present market requirements, trends, competitive landscape, product roadmap, pricing and packaging options, cost model, and P&L to the executive team.
  • Lead cross-functional and cross-divisional coordination for the successful design, development, delivery, documentation, training, launch and sale of new services.
  • Work with Marketing to effectively package new offers for sale through Nuance teams as well as through Carrier partners, managing go-to-market to meet or exceed annual revenue targets.
  • As the product external spokesperson, develop, deliver and drive strong communication processes and strategic messaging between product management, sales and Carrier partners.
  • Establishes networks with key internal and external stakeholders to envision and develop clear roadmap product services evolution.
  • Is the subject matter expert for sales and Carrier partners.

 

Product Lifecycle Management

  • Work on a daily basis with sales, R&D, technical support, professional services, order management, and other service organizations to meet product delivery KPIs
  • Lead a multi-functional project team tasked with taking a product from inception to launch, while meeting all business and financial objectives
  • Proactively manage the product portfolio, including recommendations for feature enhancements, solution consolidation and sunsets ·Gather, interpret, and recommend based on the market performance of the offerings

Qualifications:

 

Number of Years of Work Experience: 10-15+ years of relevant experience in product management in the video-on- demand, pay-per-view and/or TV industry.

 

 

Required Skills:

  • Proven ability to identify key customer requirements and translate them into detailed product requirements for next generation products
  • Ability to create, understand, and justify financial business cases using well understood market-based metrics.
  • Ability to influence customers at a business and technical level
  • Ability to model, analyze, and manage financial performance: bookings revenues, margin across a portfolio.
  • Strong user experience knowledge, with the ability to demonstrate why certain user experiences are superior.
  • Proven ability to unify a cross-functional team of opinionated design, technical, commercial, financial, marketing, sales and executive colleagues behind your vision.
  • Experience working closely with partners in developing joint solutions
  • Proven ability to successfully manage the product lifecycle of complex technical software.
  • Ability to work with senior management and technical teams to produce world-class products
  • High-energy, low-ego person who acts with urgency and integrity at all times.
  • Excellent relationship skills, able to build rapport quickly and easily with internal and external domain experts.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Preferred Skills:

  • Deep understanding of TV/ video and delivery technologies, including IPTV, OTT, broadcast, satellite.
  • Well versed in the video eco-system, including STB, middleware, CDN, headend, CA/ DRM, etc.
  • International experience.
  • Experience with Agile development methodology.
  • Proven ability to understand matters at the micro­level and make decisions at the macro­level.

 Education:

  • BS in Business Administration, Computer Science, Finance, Marketing or related field.
  • MBA preferred.
