Job Summary

The Senior Director, Dev Ops at Nuance Healthcare is a mission critical leader in delivering and supporting critical and complex technology infrastructure to meet the substantial growth of the business, most of which is currently in Azure or in the process of being migrated to Azure. This role is to align the Healthcare Data Center organization with the R&D organization to provide software development lifecycle infrastructure and operations excellence.  Partner with development and product management teams to ensure a robust operation from design and development to production.  Build, grow and manage a team of distributed engineers to set the strategy and foster a culture to expand our existing Azure cloud footprint, as well as lead the migration of new products to the Azure or other cloud infrastructure.

We are looking for someone who can architect, automate, and continually improve our Azure cloud-based infrastructure and tools so we can build, configure, and scale in real time. As the Director, Dev Ops Engineering this role will need a sound understanding of software development and practical experience building large-scale and complex platforms. Additionally, as the Director, Dev Ops Engineering you will bring a solid understanding of cloud architecture and deployments to help guide our vision and strategy for future operations.

To be successful in this role this role you will have the knowledge and proven experience of the DevOps domain, including development, CI/CD, automation, infrastructure orchestration, configuration management and cloud service delivery to set our team’s values and establish the development and production service KPIs which drive our success. Additionally, this will be a dynamic role that thrives in a result driven culture that values innovation, leadership, and collaboration.

Leads the following teams:

  • Be a trusted partner that Interfaces with the R&D/Product groups to understand the planning of new products and expansion of existing products
  • Complex problem-solving ability in a diverse and distributed R&D and Hosted Operations’ environments
  • Build, market and evangelize DevOps programs to regularly drive the interface of R&D developers with engineers resulting in high levels of engagement and between the organizations
  • proven track record of influencing the migration of existing applications/software products to the cloud
  • Proven experience with large scale, production-grade systems
  • Proven leadership, project management, and coaching skills
  • Proven experience of the Software Development Lifecycle
  • Defines and owns SLAs for Infrastructure and Application Services and assures the SLAs are aligned to business expectations.
  • Establishes a performance monitoring and metrics-driven methodology that ensures speed and uptime of all applications and infrastructure are quantified, tracked and managed.
  • Leads initiatives to develop and maintain an internal Platform as a Service (PaaS) that enables product teams to build, test and deploy in a Continuous Delivery environment.
  • Responsible for strategy and planning for Infrastructure and Application Services teams and aligning team activities to the objectives of the department, regularly assessing progress.
  • Defines and implements a strategy to move to a continuous delivery model for the application support team supporting product development.
  • Ensures the development and use of an effective preventive maintenance program suitable to meet the operational objective of "99.9% availability".
  • Contributes and enhances security policies and procedures for Infra and App Services
  • Hires, develops and manages a team of highly skilled managers and engineers
  • Manages teams that provide 24 X 7 operations
  • Enforces ITIL Services standards, procedures, documentation requirements and policies
  • Responsible for executing problem management, configuration management and change management processes for all of Infrastructure and Application Services
  • Plays a leadership role identifying opportunities for further leveraging cloud technology and define business cases for migration where appropriate
  • Accountable for the overall financial performance of the dev ops team, focusing on revenue recognition, cost management, working capital management, and cash flow objectives.

  • Organized and detail-oriented, able to work well under deadlines in a changing environment; able to prioritize and perform multiple tasks effectively and concurrently.
  • Strong negotiation skills with the ability to effectively resolve conflicts and the ability to manage multiple priorities from internal customers required.
  • Able to interface with all functions at all levels within the organization; able to coordinate cross-functional teams.
  • Able to travel as needed.

Experience / Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent education required
  • 15+ years of progressive experience in large complex information systems, and/or Cloud services
  • Azure experience is required
  • 7+ years of IT Service Management, data center, server, and storage management
  • 7 + years’ experience in technical project management in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment
  • 5+ years experience in a management role
  • 5+ years experience with Release Engineering Management in a software product company or as part of an Internet based business such as an Internet Service Provider (ISP) or other web development organization
  • At least 2 years in a DevOps or similar role
  • Experience implementing Enterprise solutions on a Microsoft platform (SQL DB, Ops Management Sweets, HA Proxy, Network Security Groups.)
