As a User Interface Designer with Nuance, you’ll be designing telephone based voice journeys that incorporate technologies such as automated speech recognition, voice biometrics and AI.


You will be part of a team of designers that work on applications deployed in top financial institutions, huge government bodies and many other high-profile organisations both locally and internationally.

  • Discover and analyse requirements from both the customer and user perspective. Balance user advocacy with the commercial and technical needs of our customers.
  • Create effective speech user interface designs, from sketching high-level call flows right through to agreeing precise wording choices, and directing voice actors in the recording studio.
  • Assist in building and testing these designs with colleagues from our multi-disciplinary teams, including Project Managers, Business Consultants, Application Developers, Speech Scientists and QA Testers.
  • Analyze performance of the user interface in day-to-day use via performance metrics and caller experience, and recommend specific changes to improve performance and caller satisfaction.
  • Add experience from your specific projects to our evolving body of global best practices.


Required Skills: 

  • 3 yrs previous experience designing user interfaces / user journeys
  • Exceptional native-level written and spoken UK English
  • An eye and ear for detail
  • A professional approach - all of our designers are client-facing
  • Comfortable working both independently and as part of a large, and sometimes very international, distributed team
  • A proven ability to learn quickly
  • Solid Microsoft Office skills, including Visio and Excel

Preferred Skills:

  • Previous experience design voice user interfaces
  • Background or interest in Computer Science or Software Engineering
  • Ability in one or more foreign languages
  • Hands-on experience in an agile project environment 

Education: A Masters/Bachelors degree in Human Computer Interaction, Linguistics, or a related subject
