Job Summary

The Technical Product Manager will be a critical member of a cross-functional team charged with delivering next generation products and solutions.  More specifically the Technical Product Manager is responsible for translating multiple perspectives into technical requirements to enable the delivery of projects that meet (or exceed) end-customer, partner and internal business requirements. The Technical Product Manager will be expected to use a high level of knowledge and experience in blending traditional requirements management principles and practices with an Agile development approach to refine customer and business requirements into actionable work by development.


Key responsibilities of the Technical Product Manager role include: 

  • Requirement Elicitation: gather, articulate and document the needs of project stakeholders.  Working primarily with Product Management , you will be the primary conduit through which technical project requirements flow.
  • Requirement Definition & Analysis: clearly identifying the difference between what customers say they want and what is really needed; defining the work at a level suitable for the development team to pick up, estimate and assign
  • Requirements Specification: for complex, cross team initiatives, document the use cases and technical requirements to ensure common understanding
  • Requirements Validation: attend sprint demos, work with development and QA to ensure that the implementation details trace back to the original technical requirements
  • Managing Requirements: broker collaboration and negotiation among the various teams to ensure the right decisions are made; ongoing support for the development teams throughout implementation to refine details and provide additional information to ensure the right solution is implemented
  • Process Management and Improvement: Define and manage a well-defined technical requirements management process and champion ongoing process improvement initiatives to implement best practices for Agile
  • Product line leadership: Provide cross-functional leadership as well as represent the product with both internal constituents and with external customers and partners.  The TPM will support the Product Manager  and contribute to day-to-day operational success of the product.
  • Reporting performance: Develop and maintain a reporting dashboard with KPIs that represent the quality and delivery status of product development efforts.  

Education: An undergraduate degree is required, preferably in Software or Engineering discipline.    


Minimum years of work experience: 2-5 years as Technical Product Manager (or related role)


Required skills: The ideal candidate will:

  • Demonstrate strong leadership skills
  • Be able to work cross-functionally, oftentimes reconciling conflicting business and technical requirements
  • Have history in delivering industry benchmark software offerings
  • Have experience capturing voice of the customer and balancing customer needs with corporate objectives, partner requirements, technical requirements as well as other product inputs.
  • Have strong written and verbal communication skills to document and communicate technical product requirements
  • Have solid time and project management skills. The TPM will be balancing multiple products across several cross-functional teams
  • Strong technical background: working knowledge of agile and waterfall development methodologies and enterprise product implementation requirements
  • Willingness/ability to travel (domestic and international).

The successful profile for the Technical Product Manager also includes the following characteristics:

  • Previous Technical Product Management experience. Preferably within the Print or Capture software domain.
  • Ability in UX design including usability, flow, and wire-framing to clearly communicate conceptual designs.
  • Experience working within or with large, multi-national companies as an employee, partner, and/or customer
  • Experience working within a Product Management Framework (such as Pragmatic Marketing or SiriusDecisions)
  • Working knowledge of Software Project Management systems such as VersionOne and Team Foundation Server.
  • Experience with Agile and Waterfall Software development methodologies.
  • Knowledge of project management and product management concepts
  • Proven ability to translate non-technical information into a technical level of detail that developers can implement
  • Prior experience with SCRUM/Agile methodologies with enterprise-level application development projects.
  • Prior experience refining non-functional product requirements into technical details around acceptance criteria, performance and/or security
  • Strong interpersonal skills including collaborating, and team building with both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Excellent facilitation & negotiation skills to support bringing multiple disparate parties to agreement on priority and requirement definition
  • Strong analytical, planning, and organizational skills with an ability to manage competing demands
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of new product environments with the ability to establish/maintain high level of customer trust and confidence 

Preferred skills:

  • Previous background working direct with engineering, marketing, sales and training teams.
  • Previous experience with hosted or cloud-based offerings, subscription models, and/or “middleware” solutions
